Blitzkrieg Miniatures produce a range of 1/56 (and 1/48) scale WWII armour out of resin. Their tanks are around £20 – £22 each but most Mondays they have a half-price sale on one specific model. If you follow them long enough they are bound to have a sale on something you need for your collection (you can always find a ‘need’, right?)
A few months ago I got a brace of Panzer IIIs and was so impressed I wanted to add some more from Blitzkrieg. So around 3 weeks ago they had a Monday sale on the British Sherman Firefly. The Firefly is the British version of the American Sherman and was fitted with a 17 pounder anti-tank gun.
These two arrived this week and you can see the unboxing video below.
They are lovely models. They do have the occasional little pit-marks you get with resin models, but nothing too major. A little work will hide those.
Interestingly, they model features molded on stowage, so the front of the tank has some tarpaulins, bags, sacks, a section of tank track and a shovel, all built in to the model. The turret has some track segments, tarpaulins and sheets . A nice touch and saves on the extra cost of purchasing separate stowage, though it does mean if you have more than one model on the table, they both carry exactly the same items, unless you add some more of your own.
I have drilled out small holes in the hull and turret and fitted magnets, just to make the turrets a little more secure when travelling or moving them about, but still retaining the ability to remove the turret if necessary.
Blitzkrieg had a weekend sale a couple of weeks ago where everything was half-price. I did manage to bag three more tanks and also sent the link to my family hoping they might get Santa to bring one or two more.
